Emery: PSG ´can compete with Real Madrid´

Paris Saint-Germain boss Unai Emery is upbeat over his side s chances of getting past Real Madrid and advancing to the Champions League quarter-finals.

Despite topping Group B, the runaway Ligue 1 leaders were dealt perhaps the toughest possible hand in drawing the reigning champions.

PSG were dumped out in the round of 16 by Barcelona last term as their 4-0 first leg advantage was spectacularly overturned in a 6-5 aggregate defeat.

Emery is undaunted by a similar challenge this time around.

I think it is a good draw. I believe we can compete with Real Madrid, Emery told UEFA.com.

To make something great in the UEFA Champions League, you need to beat the best teams. The last 16 is a good moment to play such teams.

We will need to show…

Manchester City eye Mycael as potential Ederson replacement

Manchester City are interested in signing Mycael in the summer transfer window, according to . The report has claimed that City, who won the Premier League title last season are looking at Mycael as a potential replacement for Ederson.

Ederson is the number one goalkeeper at City at the moment. The Brazil international is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and has been superb for the Citizens over the years. However, there is a chance that Ederson could be off to Saudi Arabia this summer.

So, City are on the hunt for a new goalkeeper. If Ederson leaves, then City manager Pep Guardiola will promote Stefan Ortega to number one. City want to bring a potential number two, and they are showing interest in Mycael, who has only played twice for Athletico Paranaense’s f…

Tielemans to have Leicester medical

Youri Tielemans, who has confirmed his wish to leave AS Monaco this summer, is scheduled to undergo a medical today (Saturday) ahead of a proposed move to Leicester City, according to .

The midfielder spent the second half of the 2018/19 season on loan at the King Power Stadium, and it seems he s very close to making the move permanent, despite the reported interest from the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Tielemans arrived to England on Friday evening in order to complete the move before the Foxes travel to France to begin their pre-season training camp. The fee Monaco are to receive is apparently agreed at around £40 million, which would be a club record for Leicester. The signing would be the third of the summer for the 2015/16 Premier League cham…

Iceland v Austria: Alaba backed to warm to task

Austria midfielder Stefan Ilsanker is baffled by criticism of David Alaba ahead of his country’s concluding Euro 2016 Group F match against Iceland.

The Bayern Munich defender, whose versatility sees him deployed in a central midfield role at international level, was a star performer as Austria completed a successful qualifying campaign.

His influence has been somewhat becalmed in France, since hitting the post during the opening minute against Hungary. Austria s neighbours would run out surprise 2-0 winners.

Injury problems persuaded coach Marcel Koller to push Alaba forward into the more advanced number 10 role for Saturday s 0-0 draw against Portugal, with the results mixed at best before the 23-year-old was substituted midway through the second half.

AC Milan 2-1 PSG: What Were The Key Talking Points As The Rossoneri Mount A Crucial Champions League Comeback At The San Siro?

Facing what was a must-win Champions League showdown on Tuesday night, AC Milan mounted a stunning comeback at the San Siro as they secured a 2-1 victory against PSG.

Hit with a routine 3-0 drumming when they travelled to the French capital for their reverse meeting a fortnight ago, it appeared that the Rossoneri were destined for another frustrating night as former defender Milan Skriniar opened the scoring after just nine minutes.

However, with their knockout stage dreams firmly on the line here, Stefano Pioli’s side mounted a famous fightback as attacking talisman Rafael Leao notched his first strike since September just three minutes later.

Putting in what was a hugely impressive performance on either side of the half-time break, it was eventually ex-Chels…

Man Utd forward Amad joins Sunderland on loan

Manchester United forward Amad Diallo has joined Championship side Sunderland on loan for the rest of the 2022-23 season.

The Ivory Coast international joined the Red Devils in January 2021 from Atalanta, but he struggled to find a way into the first team at Old Trafford.

He was loaned out to Scottish Premiership giants Rangers for the second half of last season, scoring three times in 13 appearances across all competitions.

The 20-year-old will work under new Black Cats boss Tony Mowbray, who was appointed on Tuesday after Alex Neil left to join Championship rivals Stoke City.

Scottish Premiership Review: Derby win for Motherwell as Hearts triumph

Motherwell overcame Lanarkshire rivals Hamilton Academical 1-0 to move up to seventh in the Scottish Premiership table.

Louis Lang fired home the only goal of the game on the stroke of half-time and, although Louis Moult had a second-half penalty saved by Michael McGovern, Motherwell held out for their first win at New Douglas Park since May 2009.

Hearts closed to within six points of second-placed Aberdeen and strengthened their grip on a Europa League qualification spot thanks to a 1-0 win against Partick Thistle.

Arnaud Djoum headed the only goal of the game his first this season after 25 minutes at Tynecastle.

Casilla hails James after goalscoring return

Goalkeeper Kiko Casilla felt James Rodriguez showed his importance to Real Madrid by opening the scoring in the 2-0 LaLiga win over Espanyol.

James has struggled for a regular place in Zinedine Zidane s plans and was making his first start of the season at the Estadi Cornella-El Prat on Sunday, as Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale sat out due to illness and a hip injury respectively.

The Colombia playmaker grasped his chance in first-half stoppage time with a superb individual effort, setting Madrid on course to preserve their 100 per cent record this term before Karim Benzema sealed the points with 19 minutes to play.

I don t think in the first 20 minutes we were playing like we want to play, former Espanyol keeper Casilla said.

They have also got pla…

Manchester United interested in Villarreal’s Pau Torres

Manchester United are interested in signing Pau Torres from Villarreal in the summer of 2023, according to . The report has claimed with England international central defender Harry Maguire not having the best of times, the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners are looking for another centre-back and think that Torres fits the bill.

Torres has been on the books of Villarreal since 2002 and has established himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet. The 25-year-old is also a regular for the Spain national football team, and given his age, he can only improve and get better in the coming years.

So far this season, Torres has made six appearances in La Liga for Villarreal. During the 2021-22 campaign, the 25-year-old Spain international centre-bac…

Hull City 3 Crystal Palace 3: Campbell equaliser buys Pardew time

Alan Pardew may have earned another stay of execution after Fraizer Campbell snatched a 3-3 draw for Crystal Palace at relegation-threatened Hull City in the Premier League.

The hosts had been in front at the break courtesy of a contentious Robert Snodgrass penalty at a sparsely populated KCOM Stadium.

Palace levelled, also from the spot, when Christian Benteke stroked home after Snodgrass, who dived to win his own penalty, felled Wilfried Zaha just inside the area early in the second half.

Zaha put Palace ahead with a brilliant strike in the 70th minute, but Hull responded almost immediately, Adama Diomande netting courtesy of a dynamic solo effort of his own.

Hull regained the lead through Jake Livermore, the former Tottenham player sauntering unopp…
