Arsenal loanee Pablo Mari wants to continue working with head coach Mikel Arteta for years and hopes to win the Premier League with the club.

Former Manchester City defender Mari joined Arsenal from Flamengo in January on a temporary deal until the end of the 2019-20 season.

After a couple of appearances for the Under-23s, the 26-year-old made his first-team debut in a 2-0 FA Cup win at Portsmouth on March 2.

Mari then played the full 90 minutes as the Gunners overcame West Ham 1-0 in the final game before the coronavirus pandemic brought the season to a halt.

Struijk´s tackle on Elliott ´wouldn´t even be a yellow´ for Leeds owner

Pascal Struijk s tackle that resulted in a horror injury for Harvey Elliott did not even deserve a yellow card, according to Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani.

Elliott suffered what appeared to be a serious leg injury following a tackle from Struijk as he raced away on the right wing, with Mohamed Salah frantically calling for the physios to provide treatment.

The Leeds defender was shown a straight red card for the tackle in the 60th minute, while Elliott was carried off on a stretcher. The Liverpool teenager soon posted on Instagram: Thanks for all the messages. Road to recovery. YNWA.

Radrizzani regretted that Elliott had suffered a potentially serious injury but did not feel referee Craig Pawson made the right decision by sending Struijk off…

Laws vows to build on Coyle legacy at Burnley

Brian Laws started work as manager of Burnley on Wednesday with a pledge to build on the achievements of his predecessor Owen Coyle.

The former Sheffield Wednesday boss was a surprise choice to take charge of the Premier League side but he insisted he could win over supporters who are sceptical of his ability to keep the Lancashire club in the top flight.

The board believe they have made the right decision and so do I, Laws said. All I can say to the supporters is that they will get my full commitment.

Laws, a former Burnley player who was sacked by Wednesday last month, fills a vacancy created by Coyle s decision to move to local Premier League rivals Bolton.

Laws, 48, beat off competition from Doncaster manager Sean O Driscoll to secure a two-and-a-h…

Ozil underlines desire to stay at Real Madrid

Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil has quashed speculation over his future by insisting he wants to stay with the club.

The German playmaker has been strongly linked with a departure from the Bernabeu of late, with the signing of Isco from Malaga thought to have put his position under threat.

But Ozil, who has been linked to Premier League duo Arsenal and Manchester United, has claimed he has the full backing of new coach Carlo Ancelotti and wants to remain in the Spanish capital.

The coach has confidence in me and I feel very good, he said. I want to be successful.

Sevilla 1 Athletic Bilbao 0: Sampaoli beats Valverde in early Barcelona audition

In a showdown between two coaches tipped to contend for the Barcelona job, Vicente Iborra s strike ensured Sevilla remain firmly in LaLiga s title race thanks to an important 1-0 home victory over Athletic Bilbao.

It was Jorge Sampaoli who came out on top against Ernesto Valverde as Sevilla moved to within two points of LaLiga leaders Barcelona, whose coach Luis Enrique this week announced he will leave the club at the end of the season, creating the most sought-after vacancy in world football.

The only goal of the game at Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan came in the 14th minute on Thursday, Iborra netting his seventh goal of the season by slamming home a rebound after Stevan Jovetic s penalty had been saved by the legs of goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz.

The spot-kick had been a…

Mourinho: Something is wrong if De Gea run continues

Jose Mourinho feels it would be a bad sign if David de Gea were to win Manchester United s Player of the Year award for a fourth successive season.

The Spain international claimed the individual trophy in 2014, 2015 and 2016 to become the second player after Cristiano Ronaldo to win it three times.

Mourinho is pleased to see a goalkeeper get recognition for fine performances, but believes a fourth consecutive victory for De Gea would suggest the club are too often in trouble defensively.

I think when a goalkeeper is the player of the season it is because something is wrong, Mourinho told reporters.

Hopefully, David is not our Player of the Year again this season, but hopefully he keeps making important saves for us like he did in the last match.

Evra should never play for France again: Thuram

Former France international Lilian Thuram on Friday said that current captain Patrice Evra should never be allowed to represent his country again due to his leading role in the World Cup player revolt.

I asked for the players to be severely punished and for Patrice Evra never to come back into the France team, said Thuram during a meeting of the French Football Federation s (FFF) federal council of which he is a member.

When you are captain of France, there is a responsibility and a respect for the shirt and for people that you have to have.

Manchester United left-back Evra was reportedly a central figure in the Franc…
